Stay fresh!Squid Sisters sign-off, Inkopolis News
The bubbly, pink half of the Squid Sisters and secretly Agent 1 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon. Lost the final Splatfest of Splatoon 1, was hypnotized by DJ Octavio, and came back stronger.
Callie is the sunshine of the Squid Sisters: loud, affectionate, endlessly upbeat, and, as it turns out, a trained field agent. She and her cousin Marie grew up in Calamari County, the granddaughters of Cap'n Cuttlefish, and won a talent contest that launched them to Inkopolis stardom. In Splatoon 1 they host Inkopolis News, run the Splatfests, and perform the Calamari Inkantation, the song that helped Agent 3 defeat DJ Octavio. Unknown to the city, Callie was also Agent 1, helping her grandfather keep watch over Octo Valley.
The fall
The last Splatfest of Splatoon 1 asked players to pick a Squid Sister. Marie won. The result set Callie adrift: the Sisters' partnership cooled, and Callie wandered toward Octo Canyon, drawn by the underground music scene there. DJ Octavio found her, fitted her with a pair of Hypnoshades, and turned Inkopolis's biggest star into his own dark-haired, glittering hype act. In Splatoon 2's final battle she sings for Octavio from the Octobot King until Marie shoots the shades off her face and the cousins duet the Inkantation once more.
Callie later admits she was tempted by the Octarian scene before the shades took over, a rare moment of self-awareness that makes her more than a damsel.
Agent 1
By Splatoon 3, Callie is back in the field for good. She and Marie join the New Squidbeak Splatoon's expedition into Alterna as Agents 1 and 2, and Callie's role is the team's spirit. She teases the new Agent 3, fusses over Cuttlefish, and sings during the final battle against Mr. Grizz. The Squid Sisters returned to Inkopolis Plaza in 2023 and led Team Past at the Grand Festival, which they won.
Character
Callie is written as the kind of person who says exactly what she is thinking, a foil to Marie's dry understatement. Her signature color is pink, her tentacles are worn in a long bun, and her enthusiasm is relentless. The series never treats her cheerfulness as shallow. She is the one who kept the Sisters going, and the one who came back from the dark still smiling.
