Shiver

Shiver is the ice at the center of Deep Cut. Dressed in flowing blue-and-white with a shark motif, she leads the trio that hosts Splatsville's Anarchy Splatcast, and she does it with a composure that never quite drops. She is an Octoling, the first to headline an idol group, which in the Splatlands is barely worth mentioning. That is the point.

Deep Cut

With Frye and Big Man, Shiver forms Deep Cut, the three-piece that took over news duties in Splatoon 3. They are a very different act from the Squid Sisters or Off the Hook: less polished, more mischievous, and openly proud of their hometown roots. Their broadcasts are half news and half banter, and their music blends traditional instruments with modern beats in a way that feels distinctly Splatlands.

The bandits

Deep Cut's first appearance in Return of the Mammalians is as antagonists. They are treasure hunters, and they regard the Crater and Alterna as their territory. Shiver confronts the new Agent 3 in a boss battle astride Master Mega, a massive shark she rides like a mount, using the shark's charges and her own poise to control the arena. She is not doing it out of greed. Deep Cut steal to support Splatsville, and once they understand what Mr. Grizz is planning, they join the fight without hesitation.

Character

Shiver is written as the schemer of the group: calm, calculating, quick with a barb, and fond of gambling. She teases Frye relentlessly and treats Big Man with a mix of affection and exasperation. Beneath the cool is a fierce loyalty to her hometown and her friends that the game reveals gradually. At the Grand Festival, Deep Cut championed Team Future against the Squid Sisters' Past and Off the Hook's Present.

Her exact heritage sparked debate on release; official material confirms she is an Octoling, and fans note the shark styling as a hint at the Splatlands' mixed cultural roots. Whatever she is, she is Splatsville's, and she would tell you so with a smirk.
