An Octoling with no memory who climbed out of Kamabo Co.'s subway, defeated a twelve-thousand-year-old AI, and returned in Side Order to rescue Marina from her own creation.
Agent 8 wakes up in the dark with a song in her head. The Octo Expansion's protagonist is an Octoling deserter who remembers only the Calamari Inkantation and a vague sense that she was trying to reach the surface when something attacked her. Cap'n Cuttlefish, beside her in the rubble, names her Agent 8 on the spot. The rest of the expansion is her earning it.
The Metro
Guided by a talking telephone and supported by Off the Hook over the radio, Agent 8 rides the Deepsea Metro through dozens of Kamabo Co. tests, collecting the four "thangs" that promise passage to the promised land. Along the way she recovers mem cakes, small sculptures that hold her lost memories, and pieces together a past as a soldier and a music lover who left the domes after hearing the Squid Sisters.
Escape and ascent
The thangs are a blender. Saved by Agent 3, who is sanitized in the process, Agent 8 flees the facility with a mind-controlled hero on her tail and defeats them in a duel on the way out. On top of the NILS Statue she faces Commander Tartar, painting the statue's surface while Marina drops hyperbombs and Pearl readies the Princess Cannon. When the statue falls, Agent 8 sees the sky for the first time.
Side Order
Years later she returns. In Splatoon 3's Side Order, Agent 8 is drawn into Marina's Memverse and must climb the Spire of Order, floor by randomized floor, to free Marina from the program that took over her simulation. Her companions are Pearl, uploaded as a drone, and Acht, the DJ Dedf1sh who shares her history of sanitization. The tower's first boss is Parallel Canon, a bleached copy of Agent 8 herself, Order's vision of the perfect, personality-free subject.
Character
Agent 8 is a player character, silent and customizable, but the mem cakes and Side Order give her more interiority than any other agent. She is someone who lost everything, rebuilt herself from fragments, and chose to go back underground to help someone else do the same. The Octo Expansion made Octolings playable; Agent 8 made them heroes.
