Grizzco Industries

The shady egg-collection company that hires Inklings and Octolings for Salmon Run, run by a bear who turned out to be the last mammal on earth.

Grizzco Industries is a storefront in Inkopolis Square and later Splatsville, and a job nobody should take. Crews of four are ferried to remote Salmonid spawning grounds, handed rental weapons, and told to fill a basket with Golden Eggs before the tide and the Salmonids overwhelm them. Pay is in points, gear, and a bear-themed catalog. The boss speaks through a carved wooden bear and a radio, and for all of Splatoon 2 he never shows his face.

The Sunken Scrolls and the company's own manual hint that the operation is of dubious legality and that the Salmonids regard the raids as exactly the provocation they are. What the eggs are for is never explained until Splatoon 3, when Mr. Grizz is revealed as a bear launched into space by the humans of Alterna, returned to a world of sea creatures as the last mammal. The Golden Eggs were fuel for his rocket, and the rocket was meant to spread his Fuzzy Ooze across the planet and turn every creature into a mammal.

Every Salmon Run shift in Splatoon 2, in other words, was unknowingly feeding the Return of the Mammalians. Grizz is defeated at the top of his rocket, but Grizzco keeps operating. The bear statue still talks. The boats still go out. Nobody in Splatsville seems to know who is signing the checks now, and the games are pointedly quiet about it.
