- Salmonids
The largest of the ordinary Salmonids, a slow, heavy bruiser with a giant frying pan who anchors every wave in Salmon Run.
Cohocks are the big ones. Standing head and shoulders above the Chum that swarm around them, they carry enormous frying pans and swing them with force enough to splat a Grizzco worker in a single hit. They are slow, which is their only mercy, and they absorb a great deal of ink before going down.
In the life cycle
The Salmonid hierarchy visible in Salmon Run runs from Smallfry to Chum to Cohock, and it is implied that Cohocks are the mature warriors of the lesser ranks, the ones who survived long enough to grow large. Above them are the Boss Salmonids and, in Splatoon 3, the King Salmonids. The Sunken Scrolls describe Salmonid society as martial and tide-bound, and the Cohock is its foot soldier at full size.
Cohock Charge
Cohocks are important enough to have a Salmon Run event named after them. During Cohock Charge, a low-tide wave in which the shore is packed with Cohocks and the crew must use cannons to hold them off, they show up in numbers that make clear how dangerous a single one is. It is one of the mode's most demanding scenarios.
Character
Cohocks have no personality in the way the idols do, but they have presence. They are the Salmonid that makes new Grizzco workers panic, and the sight of one lumbering out of the surf with a pan raised is the mode's signature image. Whether they are individuals with lives and grievances, as the scrolls suggest, is something the games leave to the player to think about while they run.
