Off the Hook took over Inkopolis News in Splatoon 2 and immediately became something new: a pop act made of an Inkling and an Octoling, years before that was ordinary. Pearl, tiny and loud and heir to the Houzuki fortune, is the MC. Marina, tall and gentle and a former Octarian army engineer, is the DJ and producer. Their sign-off, "Don't get cooked, stay off the hook!", is delivered in two parts, one each.
The duo's finest hour is the Octo Expansion. They pick up Cap'n Cuttlefish's radio signal from the Deepsea Metro and support Agent 8 through every test, Marina hacking Kamabo Co.'s systems and Pearl providing running commentary. When Commander Tartar rises atop the NILS Statue, they fly in by helicopter: Marina's hyperbombs crack the statue's defenses, and Pearl's Princess Cannon, a Killer Wail powered by her legendary voice, finishes it.
Their friendship is also a philosophy. In the final Splatfest of Splatoon 2, Pearl championed Chaos and Marina championed Order, and Pearl's win shaped Splatsville. Side Order picked the argument back up, with Marina building the Memverse to explore the world she had argued for and Pearl, uploaded as a drone, climbing the Spire to remind her she was already enough. Off the Hook returned to the news desk when Inkopolis Square reopened in Splatoon 3 and led Team Present at the Grand Festival.
